Welcome to our sixth Minecraft Mash-Up! Each month, we’ll be taking three things from Minecraft and splicing them into a story you can tell by a camp fire, read in bed, or scroll through distractedly while waiting for a train. Can you guess which three things we’ve woven into this tall tale? You get extra points if you know which updates or drops they’re from, too!
Deep in the jungle, air soft with birdsong and bamboo rustle, River set a small goal for the day: finally finish building their roof. The dirt blocks they had first placed were functional, sure. But every night when River went to sleep, they stared into the dirt like an abyss. They hadn’t fixed it yet because they didn’t know what to replace it with.
A flicker in the ferns caught River’s eye. A cautious and curious ocelot! It peered from the leaves like it was reading River’s mind.
“Oh. Hello,” River whispered.
They followed the golden rules of ocelot taming: stand still, be patient, feed raw cod. River’s boots rooted into the dirt. The ocelot took one step, then another, then accepted the fish with a quick, polite crunch. It didn’t turn into a pet or follow River. It just… stopped sprinting away. What more could you ask of an ocelot? It lingered, tail twitching.
River looked into its eyes, and considered where the ocelot had come from. Did it have a plan? Probably not. Maybe they could take a page out of the ocelot’s playbook, and head out into the Overworld without a plan. Maybe they would find inspiration for their roof. Maybe they needed to get going before the sun set.
It was definitely time to move. River tightened the belt on a pair of hand‑me‑down netherite leggings, and winced at the friendly clonk they made when knees touched. Heavy. Reliable. A little like wearing a blacksmith’s promise.
