We’ve talked in this column before about how too many players die because they forget that there are more weapons in Minecraft than just swords. While some of them are a little tough to obtain and use (looking at you, tridents), there’s a fantastic early-game alternative to the sword that’s easy to craft and simple to slay with. It’s the bow, and it’s our item of the month!
Bows were added to Minecraft in January 2010 – an impressive 13 years ago – in a patch that also made explosions more deadly, and added flowers to terrain generation. Funnily enough, arrows were actually added a few months before that – and they could be fired by pressing “tab” on the keyboard.
