It took a while after the invention of the camera, the projector, and popcorn for the medium of cinema to fully bloom into the cultural powerhouse it is today. Many historians will point out the summer of 2000 as the apex, with the release of the seminal classic we all know and love, Scary Movie. Movie pioneers The Wayans Brothers retroactively birthed the genre of horror, movies that are designed to shock and scare the viewer by tapping into our deepest subconscious. Today we celebrate this hallmark moment by releasing a slew of scary maps that could easily be converted into full-length silver-screen epics and usher in a new era of cinematic excellence. Hollywood executives, play these and call me!

New on Realms: Scary Movies
Would you like to play our 11 scary maps?

Midnight Sun is an atmospheric adventure map that takes you through the nightmarish regions of the afterlife as you set out to defeat the underworld king, Inmortui, who is plotting to use your human soul as a vessel to conquer the living world. It’s a great map; tons of potential for a movie adaptation, just think of the casting choices! Just spitballing here, but maybe Jake Gyllenhaal as the warm-hearted, spirited sidekick Sir Baroque, Denzel Washington as the scenery-chewing big bad Inmortui, and me in the leading role?
ASHEN
by Supersette & Chopper2112

Horror is at its best when it taps into a scary situation from everyday life that we’re all familiar with. Ashen doesn't disappoint and goes for the gusto, as it deals with our collective fear of sleeping without a nightlight! As long as you stay in your home base (your bed), your fear level will not rise. But you will need to venture out to collect resources so you can craft equipment and candles to place throughout the map to light it up (like you might have to dig yourself out of your sheets if you want to make a midnight snack). Once you are ready for it, feeding bones to the chaos monster will allow you to summon the three spirits, which in turn will allow you to directly confront monster itself. This is perhaps where the analogy falls apart. No wait, it’s like when you have to go tinkle winkle and you’re out of toilet paper!
TEMPLE OF TERRORS
by Aandeel & Technodono
Nothing is scarier than repetition. Nothing... is scarier than repetition. In Temple of Terrors, the temple is the terror, as every time you reach the end and deliver your offering to the shrine, you are reborn at the start again – but with a twist! Flyman, Lavaman, and Crawlerman aren’t the names of rejected Mega Man bosses – but the abilities (among others) that you will cycle through on each rebirth. They will also force you to seek out new paths in order to make it to the end. For our Hollywood investors, I’d be amiss not to mention the very relatable Greedyman ability, which gives you the power to propel yourself forward purely through the desire for material wealth!
