New on Java Realms: The Raven
19 new maps to make humans and avians alike frightened!
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door
Wait, what? Gently rapping? What kind of soft, nonthreatening hip hop was Edgar Allan- uh, I mean me listening to? Not sure where I was going with this anyway, opening a blog post about our latest community creations with a narrative poem feels highly atypical. Nevermore!
RELICS FROM THE DECK
by The Brickmasons Team
Relics from the Deck is a digital card game, where you can build your own deck and d-d-duel your friends! I’m gonna show some slight bias here as I myself am an enjoyer of card games and have spent most of my disposable income on pieces of cardboard that will do little to protect me when the zombie apocalypse comes around. Sunken cost fallacy dictates that I should love this game, cool deckbuilding options and themed card packs be damned! If you don’t think that’s scary, consider this: there are people out there who don’t have a Realm and won't be able to play this (solutions to this problem at the bottom of the post)!

Horror works best if it’s based on a psychological fear, something people experience in real life but is given a metaphorical form. Frankenstein, was about people’s general fear of, uh, having your name wrongfully attributed to your humanoid monster, I think? Vampires, if I’m not completely making this up as I go, were created as a marketing strategy on behalf of garlic entrepreneurs. So, what is the real Monstrosity of this massive, unforgiving CTM map? Is it the perils, traps, and enemies we make along the way? Is the real Monstrosity... us? I do’nt know, I didn’t make it out the first area so if you get to the end maybe you can let me know!

Falling asleep is hardly scary unless you happen to be an active bulldozer operator. Unfortunately, that sentence is as far as it goes for titular equivocality with this puzzle game, but that just leaves room for you to roleplay yourself! Getting through all 59 levels and steering your bulldozer so all the boxes are in the right place can take quite some time, and you could even experiment to see what happens when you eventually drift off into the land of Nod by starting your playthrough late at night. If your foreman yells at you to wake up, you’re being way too meta and shouldn’t play at your workplace.
