You walk north for a long time. Just as the sun begins to set, you notice a cave ahead of you. And... wait, is that a mineshaft? Leading down into the darkness? It looks like it hasn’t been used for a while. What do you do? 

Ignore the mineshaft

Mine them!

You hack away at the glow berries with abandon, collecting them as they fall. Without them, the cave becomes so dark you can barely see in front of you. If only you’d thought to pack some torches before setting off on your adventure! Oh well. You can still hear the sound of rushing water though, perhaps you can follow that?

Follow the water

It's so dark you miss your step - and then suddenly you're being carried downwards by a stream of water! Aaarrrgh! You land with a splash, unhurt but a bit shaken. It’s eerily dark down here, the darkest you've ever seen – or rather not seen. And so quiet. Weirdly quiet. Caves shouldn't be this quiet, should they? There's a faint blue glow in the distance. As you walk towards it, you realizse it's a block you’ve never seen before. And not just one, either! Hundreds of them. Wouldn't they make your base look awesome? What will you do?

Mine it straight away!

You hear the jingle-clatter of experience points, but wait, no block? It just disappeared! Do you want to try again, or move on?

Move on

You decide to leave it alone. After all, best not to mine stuff when you don't know what it is, right? You keep walking in the silent darkness. And then you realise it’s not silent anymore. There’s a noise! It’s loud, and it sounds like it’s coming from very far away. You turn towards it. Should you investigate? 

Yes! Investigate the noise

You walk towards the noise. It's getting a bit louder, but it still sounds very far away. As you move along the dark corridor, you find a little alcove. Oh! And a chest! You look around you. Why does this feel like a trap? It feels too lucky to just find a chest tucked into a neat little corner like this! But perhaps you’re just the lucky type? What will you do?  

Open the chest!

You open the chest - and find an enchanted pickaxe! Wow. You've never had an enchanted pickaxe before. This one has something called "Silk Touch". Perhaps now you can mine those weird blue blocks you found earlier?

Great idea! Go back for the sculk

Nice, you've got a sculk block. There are other blocks that look like sculk around you – but they're a bit different. Do you want to mine them, too?

The more sculk the better!

COOL! Now you have some seriously weird stuff to take back to camp. Up ahead you can see light – there's a way out of the cave!

Leave the cave

You make it all the way back to camp, and your crackling little campfire. You place down some sculk blocks, and the sculk catalyst to the amazement of your friends – but then wait. What's that hissing? A bat flies from behind you, out of nowhere!

Leave the chest alone

Better safe than sorry! After all, you don't want to tell a story about a horrible, curiosity-related accident do you? Absolutely not. You keep walking. Ahead of you is light! Finally, a way out of the cave. The only way is up!

Yippee! An exit!

Woah… this looks like… a city? It’s huge, and dark, and ancient and sprawling! Who built it? And why did they leave it here? You don’t know, but you do know that it looks cool. Very cool. And the blocks it’s made of look like they’d be a great addition to your base! 

Heck no. Go in the other direction.

Leave them, they look so pretty where they are!

A smart idea indeed. After all, you don’t have a torch, and these glow berries give off some very helpful light in all this darkness! You keep walking, and spy a fork in the road ahead of you. One pathway extends downwards, and the other one goes up. Which way do you go?

There's something glowing to the right

You are so focussed on the glowing treasure up ahead that you're not watching where you're going. You hop right into the path of a waterfall, and then you're tumbling, down into silent darkness. As you nurse your flashing hearts, you realize the mineshaft you saw in the beginning drops out right here. Looks like you just found another, more water-filled route to the bottom! The path in front of you forks. To the left you can see light. To the right, there’s nothing but a big shadow. What will you do?

This seems like the fastest path to adventure. Onward!

Oof! Your adventuring spirit takes over, and you don't notice as the blocks beneath your feet drop away! You land roughly and lose a few hearts. It’s dark down here. Really dark. A deep kind of darkness you’ve not seen before. It doesn’t feel safe at all, and you figure it’s best to keep moving. The path in front of you forks, and you can see a big shadow down the path to your right. Which way do you go?

Not towards the big shadow! Go left.

A smart idea indeed. You don't have infinite hearts, after all, and that fall took a few outta you. You choose the left pathway. It's so dark, you wish you'd thought to craft a torch before you came. You grip your pickaxe, sure that mobs are meant to spawn when it gets this dark, but weirdly it seems like you're all alone down here. You reach another fork. One pathway extends down, the other up. Which way do you go?

Go down

Sure, descending into pitch blackness is scary, but you came here for a story, didn’t you!? “Yes” you whimper to yourself as you take some very careful steps downwards. You creep amongst the deepslate cobblestone, and spy something glinting in the distance. Do you investigate?

Run away!

Are you sure? Investigating sounds like a thing an explorer would do. Well, no worries! You know best. You keep walking, very quickly this time, and you soon find yourself... at a dead end! Oh, no. Do you want to backtrack to the path you found that lead upwards? Or try and leave the cave?

Investigate… and find a chest!

It’s a chest! Who doesn't loot a free chest? Inside, you find a music disc! Wow! You've only heard rumours of these before. And look! Whatever kind soul put this chest here left a jukebox in it, too.! It would be rude not to listen to the disc, right?

Listen to the disc! 

Wow. It sounds like nothing you've ever heard, and it's so loud in all this quietness! You listen happily, nodding along, when suddenly you can hear something else. Not the music disk. What's that noise?

I’ll listen later. Take it with you!

A smart idea. After all, it’s so quiet down here, who knows what would hear you! You tuck the disc into your inventory, along with the juke box. What a great story you have for the campfire now! Time to head back, you think.

Mine the reinforced deepslate!

You hit and hit and hit again -- and watch as your iron pickaxe begins to take some serious damage. Just as your pickaxe shatters - the block pops towards you! You've broken your only pickaxe, but at least you have the block! And behind it... wait, is that a chest? 

Keep going!

Open the chest!

You open the chest and find... a skeleton skull! Wow! That is super cool. You pop it in your inventory, along with a few loaves of bread and a less-shiny wooden pickaxe. That mining was very loud, and this place is very, very quiet. Do you think anything heard you?

Nah. Everything's fine!

There’s nothing down here! You’re very confident of that. Even though you found a chest with a music disc and a jukebox in it. Which definitely doesn’t feel like a coincidence. You keep walking on with a new found confidence, whistling a tune.

And then… You hear a thu-thump in the darkness. And then another. Is it getting darker in here, or is it just your eyes playing tricks on you? What do you do?

Nah. Keep exploring

There's nothing down here! You're very confident of that. Despite all the ruins around you. And the great big building that definitely looks like it might've been purposefully built at some point. You keep strolling through the ruins with a new found confidence, whistling a jolly tune.

And then… You hear a thu-thump in the darkness. And then another. Is it getting darker in here, or are your eyes just playing tricks on you? What do you do?

Mine the cobbled deepslate!

The reinforced deepslate looks too tough for your already half-broken pickaxe, so you take a thwack at the cobbled deepslate instead. You mine five blocks before your pickaxe starts to flash. It's close to breaking, but you're nearly done mining this wall. Keep going? Or stop?

Stop! I don't want to break my pickaxe

You're quite happy with four blocks of cobbled deepslate, thank you. You'll be able to do something cool with these! Perhaps a new backsplash for that kitchen you've been crafting? Although that mining was very loud, and this place is very, very quiet. Do you think anything heard you?

Go up! 

You follow the path up, and discover it's a way out of the cave! To be honest, you’re quite relieved to see the blocky sunshine again. You hadn't realized how dark it was in there until now. Do you want to go back to the campfire?

You're feeling courageous now, and decide to keep exploring! You go back to the fork. There’s an odd looking shadow on your right. Do you want to investigate it?
