    Community Team Builds: Pride

    Happy Pride, everyone! Pride Month is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender, and questioning people. Today, pride celebrations usually include parades, picnics, parties, workshops, concerts, and more, in order to commemorate and recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ people have had on history. But we’re still in a pandemic, so we couldn’t very well take to the streets – especially during a workday.

    So the Community Team here at Mojang Studios did the next best thing: we decided to take our celebrations to Minecraft! We picked “Pride” as the theme of what has now become our favorite quarterly meeting: the Community Team Build Challenge meeting.

    You didn’t think working for Minecraft was all work and no play, did you?

    Here’s what we ended up making:

    To celebrate belonging and inclusivity, this house is decked floor to ceiling in the Pride flag colors. Visitors won’t forget for a moment that they are welcome here, from the rainbow bottom of the pool to the stained-glass porch railing on the upper deck.

    In the spirit of celebrating love and hope, stained glass blocks were used to make a rainbow and a heart using the colors of the Pride flag. "I love Pride celebrations and am a proud LGBTQ+ ally, so I wanted to celebrate and honor a beautiful community who has added so much richness and joy to my life and to the world with these two pieces."

    A park that can be used by the community! They can be enjoyed by everyone, and people get to spend some time in the great outdoors. Parks also foster a safe space for members of the community to gather and celebrate.

    We needed the perfect backdrop for our little team build – and what's better than a waterfall? With that inspiration in mind, I used stained glass to help those colors pop. Waterfalls are amazing, powerful, and majestic, and so are those who make up our community!
