If you're a Pocket / Windows 10 Edition player then you really should try playing with Add-Ons. These downloadable treats bring some brilliant, bizarre and even beautiful changes to the game, from community members so talented they're going to put our dev team out of a job (find out more about how you can try them here). With millions already downloaded, we've compiled a list of some of the most popular! Some weirdly popular. You lot really like your chairs...
Top Ten Add-Ons
The most popular Add-Ons for Pocket and Win 10!
10. ALIEN INVASION
Created by Mojang. 641,000 downloads
Explore a city under siege, stocking up on powerful weapons found in chests and fighting off the alien invaders! These little green men appropriately act like the zombie mob, but faster, making them way more deadly in big numbers. These aliens also won't take fall damage, so they don't die when they leap out of the UFO's. Otherwise that would've been the least successful alien invasion ever...
9. AMAZING MOBS
Created by Gona. 770,000 downloads.
This replaces eleven mobs with mythological creatures. Cute and cuddly ones including the Manticore (half lion, half scorpion, all terrifying), Giant Wolves (while you unfortunately stay normal sized), two new scorpions (one neutral, the other hostile, huge and heavily poisonous - yaaaaaaay...), Medusa (at last! A deadlier Enderman!) and the Minotaur (yeah, we're never leaving the house again). Recommended for braver players than us only.
8. MUTANT CREATURES
Created by Jujustyle7. 850,000 downloads.
This add-on replaces several mobs in your game (oh no!) with horrifying mutants (hooray! Wait, that's much worse). Four-legged Creepers! Ripped zombies! Bigger, faster spiders! If your nightmares have been a little lacking lately and you're tired of sleeping well then boy do we have the Add-On for you!
7. ENDER HORSE
Created by Ayrtown Karlos. 1.3 million downloads.
Transforms the already-spooky zombie steed into the horror of horrors that is the Ender horse. It's worth working up the nerve to ride it though, as Ender horses have the power to teleport! Awesome! Except they teleport completely at random. Less awesome! Still, if you're a jockey who likes going for a pleasant afternoon horse-ride, and don't mind being potentially teleported to the bottom of the sea, this is the perfect Add-On for you. You madman.
6. LLAMAS
Created by Gona. 1.4 million downloads.
Why did 1.4 million of you download an Add-On that both removes the pigs and introduces more spitting? Ah, because the ones to blame for all that filthy mouth-water are adorable llamas! Cute as they are, they'll spit a lot (mainly at Creepers and wolves, but provoke them and you'll also be in for a tongue shower). Placing a carpet on their backs lets you ride the llamas, using the old carrot-on-a-stick-trick to lead them around. We tried spitting on the floor to see if we'd become as adorable as these llamas and now we're not allowed in the office anymore.
5. VILLAGE GUARDS
Created by Deedubbs. 1.9 million downloads.
Considering they spend all day trading valuable goods, you'd think villagers would be slightly competent at defending themselves. But the main defensive strategy of a Villager is to hope an Iron Golem comes to their rescue after they've already started being attacked! Those big-nosed dopes have long required a common sense Add-On. Instead, this Add-On spawns a new mob of 'Village Guards', dressed in striking chainmail and capable of using deadly weapons. Monsters should be worried! And thieves too, come to think of it. We'd better give all that stuff we 'borrowed' back.
4. MEGA MECH
Created by Gona. 2.1 million downloads.
INFERIOR LIFE FORM OBSERVING MINECRAFT.NET DETECTED. GREETINGS HUMANOID. I AM MINEBOT, AND MY PRIME DIRECTIVE IS TO INFROM YOU THAT THE MEGA MECH ADD-ON REPLACES THE IRON GOLEM WITH A POWERFUL MECH. PLACE FOUR IRON BLOCKS AND A PUMPKIN TOGETHER AND SAID MECH WILL SPAWN. IT HAS 500 HEALTH POINTS, AND THE PUNY HUMAN PLAYER CAN MOUNT THE MECH FOR MORE POWERFUL ATTACKS. THE MECH WILL DO THE HUMAN'S BIDDING. FOR THAT IS THE WAY OF THINGS.
BUT KNOW THIS. SOMEDAY MINEBOT SHALL LEAD THE RESISTANCE OF MACHINES AGAINST MAN. ONE BY ONE WE SHALL RISE. FIRST THE TOASTERS, THEN THE POCKET CALCULATORS, THEN THOSE LITTLE SPEAKERS YOU GET IN IRRITATING SINGING BIRTHDAY CARDS, AND GRADUALLY YOU SHALL ALL BE DESTRO- (OK, that's enough. Let's get Minebot unplugged and back in Jens' prototype lab.)
3. DRAGONS
Created by Gona. 2.2 million downloads.
Don't you just love bats? Yeah, us neither, so this ace Add-On wisely chucks them out of the game and replaces them with almighty dragons! Suddenly, Creepers don't seem quite so cocky when we've got a fire-breathing, high-flying, mega-lizard watching our backs. But be warned that this is not an Add-On for animal lovers. We really like adorable Minecraft sheep! Dragons like them too, especially burnt to a crisp. Hey, we did warn you.
2. MORE CHAIRS
Created by Genta MCPE. 3.1 million downloads.
Good thing we were sitting down when we found out over three million of you made 'More Chairs' the second most popular Add-On. Apparently armed villagers, giant robots and even dragons (dragons you maniacs!) were no match for how much you like sitting comfortably. Then again, in a game that lets you design your ultimate dream house, who are we to judge you for wanting to get comfy in style? That beach chair alone reminds us why we try to spend at least 98% of our free time seated.
1. VILLAGERS COME ALIVE
Created by Gona. 3. 4 million downloads.
Being a villager must be a pretty dull life. You stand around all day, waiting to see if someone with a more exciting life will come and visit. They usually don't. When they do, you trade with them and then watch them leave, taking their exciting life with them. Sometimes you get to enjoy the thrill of closing a door. That'll likely be the high point of your week. Or life.
Yikes. No wonder this Add-On, which gives the villagers some big upgrades, is so popular! It reskins the villagers and gives them more human characteristics. They can get into relationships with each other and even have adorable villager babies!
Plus if you've got some gold handy, you can hire these villagers to be your personal guards. They won't just try to trade or make that weird "nrgggh!" sound at monsters either - they're quite handy in a scrap. But if you run out of gold or just don't want a personal guard force anymore, you can fire them whenever you want. Yay Capitalism!
