    Our Marketplace Picks: May 2019

    What are our three favourite Marketplace items from the previous month?

    June is a truly marvellous month. Not only does it mark the start of a short but long-awaited summer in Sweden – everything just springs to life. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, Creepers are hissing – even Tom Stone, head honcho/pale egomaniac of Minecraft.net, comes out from his writing cave beneath the editorial desk! He’s just been way too busy with those 10 things videos...

    But you’re not here to hear about the greatness of June. You’re here because of MAY. Not Spiderman’s aunt – the MONTH of May. You see, during May, we saw a total of 90 amazing maps, skins and texture packs released to the Marketplace.

    As always for this monthly list, we have the faithful content team, this time represented by Oskar Thysell and Sara Lempaiäinen, ready to share their favourite pieces of gameplay from the previous month. So what made it onto their undisputed list? Let’s find out!

    Inner Dragon

    Have you ever looked down at your outfit and thought: “This would be a lot cooler if I were a dragon?” Who doesn’t? I think about this almost every day! Tetrascape is here to save you and me from this shamefully un-scaly fashion faux pas. They’ve created a whole 14 different dragon skins for you. Before you beat yourself up over getting yet another skin pack, remember – a portion of the revenue goes to nature conservation. It’s helping a good cause, how amazing isn’t that?

    Oskar, I’m sure you can appreciate scaly skins. What say you?

    "Become your ultimate form" says the promotion text. I like that bit of self-encouragement! I'm really hoping my inner dragon is either of the 'Shadow' or 'Thunder' variety here, where they've stretched the mouth to be part of the torso as well as the head, which is super cool. I think this would increase my devouring capabilities by an unquantifiable sum, I could possibly even earn a healthy side-buck letting circus personnel stick their heads inside it.

    Puppy Love

    Do you like puppies? Do you wish that you and your friends could take to the streets as a cute puppy gang, spreading cheer to villagers and Creepers alike? The puppy-lovin’ crew over at 57Digital took this craving to heart. They created six dog skins that you and your friends will be fighting over like cats and… well, dogs. As connoisseurs of adorable puppers and loyal doggos, we’d love to award this skin pack with the official Mojang Dog Seal of Approval... if there was one. Since this isn’t the case, we’ll just let Sara explain why this is on the list!

    I love puppies, so when I saw this pack, I knew I'd immediately enjoy it. These dogs are adorable and also very well made. I really like the detail on these skins, in particular how they add shape to the character's head. The details on their faces give them a lot of expressions, adding personality to each character. The way the creators have designed the ears and tongues is very neat, and a good example of how to use outer layers in skins. The shading overall is nicely done, adding dimension to each part of the geometry. The pack contains a good variation of appearances, and the creators clearly put a lot of thought into each one of these skins.

    Wildlife: Jungle

    Wildlife: Jungle is as close as you can get to the safari without waking up to an anteater in your bunk. Unless that’s how you live your life. Which is fine! You do you! But for those of us who want the adventure of the jungle without booking airfare, the newest release from Pixelheads is just the thing you’re looking for. Vehicles, ATV’s, trucks, and chimpanzees – again, we don’t want to find any of those in our bunk, but in our Marketplace content? Yes, please!

    So I know the big draw of this is all of the animals, and I hope Per is showering them in all the praise possible in order to ensure they're hygienically parallel to their awesomeness. But for me, I'm all about that build. That build. There's a huge custom terrain area filled with small cosy cabins, ancient temples and finely crafted mountains and pathways. The mountain with the lake on the top with waterfalls on all sides is where I'd build my small hovel, which might not be the optimal place for a base in order to mine and stuff, but you can't beat that view.
