    My Boggy Valentine

    A loving message from a poisonous mob

    Ah, Valentine’s Day! While this might not be a day that you typically associate with poison skeletons, I’m here to broaden your mind. Couldn’t a poison skeleton be just the right thing to talk about this Valentine’s Day? All those flying poison arrows. The affectionate gurgle as they walk towards you. The loving look in their eyes as they spawn from the trial spawner?

    Introducing our Valentine this year – a new hostile mob. The bogged!

    The bogged, a skeleton clad in rags and moss, is armed with deadly poison arrows – and it has got its sights set on you!

    The bogged is a loveable new mob coming to testing as part of the 1.21 Update. Even the name sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Bogged. Reminds me of deep mud, and maybe some noxious gases? Perfect for this, the love-iest day of the year!

    The bogged is a new skeleton variant that fires poison-tipped (cupids?) arrows. You can sometimes find the bogged in the trial chambers (coming with the 1.21 Update), as well as elsewhere in Minecraft. If you’re really keen to set up a date with them, perhaps take a wander into the swamp or mangrove swamp!

    Just like skeletons, the bogged is an undead mob, so sunlight is a big red flag (as in “it sets the bogged on fire” red). Also, unlike the skeletons, its arrows are poison-tipped, which means they’ll leave you with a lovely poisoned effect, turning your health bar a romantic green color!

    How can I test 1.21 features?

    You can test these features by enabling snapshots for Minecraft: Java Edition, or previews/beta for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition. To install a snapshot, open up the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots in the "Installations" tab. To enable preview/beta for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, then follow these instructions.

    The bogged is currently available for testing in Java snapshot, and will be available soon for testing in Bedrock beta and preview. 

    *Preview is available for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Realms on Xbox, Windows 10/11, and iOS. Betas are available on Android (Google Play). 

    Test on your Realm!

    If you are a Realm owner, you can also play the new snapshots, betas*, and previews* on your Realm! Any player who has an active Realms subscription is eligible to create a free testing Realm, so you can try out the new features with friends. Find more information on how to enable snapshots for Java Realms, and how to enable betas/previews on Bedrock Edition Realms*!

    Important note: Testing versions can corrupt your world, so please backup and/or run them in a different save folder from your main worlds.
