Did you know that moss blocks can be found in shipwrecks? That's right – the elusive block can be made a little easier to find if you're having trouble locating lush caves. All you need is one moss block, after all, since they're infinitely reproducible with bone meal – and everyone has bones in their pockets. Right?
Another tip, which is one I already followed, is to turn on subtitles in the Audio settings. Wattles proposes that you can use this to locate axolotls, but it's useful for a lot of stuff – locating zombies under your zombie-free house, for example, because you forgot to light up the cave underneath, or getting advance warning of a creeper behind you. It also means you can play with the sound off, if you'd rather listen to music or podcasts or whatever it is you like!
But the best tip, or rather, bunch of related tips, is all the things you can do to light your base in 1.17. You probably already knew about glow berries, and maybe you knew about glow lichen, but it turns out that amethyst buds also glow – not a lot, mind you, but the next update will change mob spawning so that monsters only turn up in complete darkness. That makes amethysts a viable light source!
Another cool light source is combining signs with dye and glow squid ink, which (you guessed it) makes the signs glow. Now, I don't know why I didn't make the connection myself here, but they don't just glow aesthetically – that's an actual light source. Pop some characters on that sign, like a bunch of capital "i"s, or maybe some "o"s if you're feeling spicy, and voila: your very own designer lampshade.
Thanks to wattles, I'm now feeling like I'm a little more familiar with 1.17... just in time for learning it all over again in 1.18!
