The Nether’s forests can be creepy places at the best of times. The warped and crimson forest biomes are full of strange fungi, twisting and weeping vines, and bioluminescent mushrooms. But what’s that noise? That sort of snuffling, oinking sound? It sounds kinda disgusting, and yet somehow it’s our mob of the month. Allow me to introduce to you... the hoglin.
Hoglins began appearing in the Nether following the conveniently-named Nether Update in June 2020. They were called “piglin beasts” when announced at the previous year’s MINECON Live, but got a renaming by players before they began appearing in players’ worlds.
You’ll most easily find herds of hoglins in crimson forests, where they snuffle around looking for tasty things to eat. But they can also be found in bastion remnants, where piglins seem to have gathered them for farming purposes. In some bastion remnants, you’ll even find a stable-like structure that houses them.
