    Taking Inventory: Heart of the Sea

    Just a drop in the ocean!

    Few resources in Minecraft are as rare and coveted as our item-of-the-month, the Heart of the Sea. This elusive treasure doesn’t just make waves, it gives anyone nearby total control of their underwater environment. Want to know more? Then grab your snorkels, and let’s dive in.

    The Update Aquatic in 2018 focused on making the game’s underwater environments a lot more interesting. We got coral! Blue ice! Buckets of fish! Tridents! Sea pickles! And it was in this excellent company that the Heart of the Sea plopped into our lives.

    The Heart of the Sea is an essential ingredient for just one item – the conduit. As I wrote a few years back, when we featured the conduit:

    "Put a conduit in the world and you’ll be granted immense power. Literally – an area-of-effect status called “conduit power”. Conduit power combines the effects of water breathing, night vision, and haste status effects, which is a pretty nifty combo when underwater. Conduits also emit light and damage nearby hostile mobs in contact with water. Perfect for underwater base-building!"

    Sound good? Great – then you’ll need to assemble a few things. First on the list are eight nautilus shells. These can be bought from wandering traders, looted from Drowned, or very occasionally caught when fishing. You can boost your chances a little with a Luck of the Sea enchant on your fishing rod.

    Then there’s the Heart of the Sea itself, which is trickier to track down because it’s only found in buried treasure chests. There are two ways to locate these. The first is to find a buried treasure map in a shipwreck or ocean ruin. Follow the map and locate the big red X.

    The second is to befriend a dolphin. Feed one some raw cod or salmon – their favorite food – and they’ll return the favor by swimming towards the nearest buried treasure, shipwreck, or ocean ruins. Ideally, it’ll be the first on that list, but either way, it’ll get you closer to your goal.

    With both ingredients in hand, find a crafting grid and surround the heart with the nautilus shells to craft the conduit. From there, the ocean is your oyster – enjoy exploring the depths with a current of confidence, courtesy of your newfound CONDUIT POWER. Happy underwater adventuring!
