    Bang the Gong

    Tutorial Difficulty: 5/10

    You know, I've always wanted a gong. But I didn't realise that gongs need a bunch of trapped rabbits to function, and now I feel like my desire to own one is probably a bit mean.

    At least, this Minecraft gong needs rabbits. Well, it doesn't need the rabbits per se — they just make it look nice. But that's not the point! The point is that this is a real, working gong in Minecraft, and that's really cool.

    Minecraft builder JayLythical has been doing a colossal multi-part mega build of a Japanese Temple for months, and he took a brief break from building lots and lots of walls to show us how to make a decorative gong. He uses polished Blackstone brick, which is a little hard to acquire — you need to find yourself a basalt biome in the Nether or go to the bottom of the lava sea (good luck) — but you can probably cheap out and use stone bricks if you want, too.

    The gong, in its pretty little frame, is deceptively simple but will elevate your Japanese-style builds in a big way. By using a combination of stone, wood, and even gold (you fancy builder, you), you can create something that looks like it took hours, but will only really take you about 15 minutes... as long as you have the blocks ready, that is.

    But the trickiest part of this gong tutorial is also its dark, dirty secret. You see those lovely pillars on either side of the gong? See how they've got that nice detailing on them? That's a lead! You're probably thinking "leads aren't that hard to get, you just kill — er, borrow them from Wandering Traders!" True, but that's just the beginning of the sad story.

    Those leads are attached to rabbits, hidden in the frame of the gong. Those rabbits exist solely to provide decoration (which, of course, is totally optional). That means you'll probably have to build this gong in an area with access to rabbits, like the snowy or sandy biomes where they spawn quite frequently. Also, you'll have to catch the speedy little guys, and then corral them into the tiny, dark spaces where they'll spend the rest of their lives. You should also make sure to name them, so they don't despawn!

    So, if you're okay with catching and trapping tiny little bunnies, then this build is great for you. With the bell in the center of the gong, you can even ring it as many times as you like! If you're averse to the bunny-cruelty, though, there's always the option of using cows or sheep instead... as long as you don't mind your gong snuffling and bleating. Otherwise, it's time to catch some prey!

    Those poor, poor bunnies.
