As a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan and an avid Minecraft player, I’ve always wondered whether I could defeat Badniks with something other than speed. A stone pickaxe, perhaps? A diamond sword? How about a crossbow? Today we can all find out, because Gamemode One’s brand-new Sonic Texture Pack* releases on Minecraft Marketplace, bringing the Sonic universe into your Survival mode world!
A Sonic-tastic Texture Pack
Transform your Overworld into a classic Sonic landscape!
Are you ready to immerse yourself in the landscape and lore of Sonic the Hedgehog? Texture packs completely transform the way your Overworld looks and feels, and in this epic pack, it feels like you’re stepping into one of your favorite Sonic the Hedgehog games! Spawn into iconic Zones like the Green Hills or the Labyrinth, and discover an Overworld that’s been transformed into Sonic’s world! Mine for Master Emerald shards, recover your hearts with Chao fruit, and craft a trusty Excalibur sword as you venture through familiar Sonic gamescapes, reimagined in new, blocky ways!
Scott Kerslake, Gamemode One“It was a lot of fun to adapt the most iconic Eggman Badniks and Sonic creatures while still preserving the Minecraft experience. It was quite a challenging undertaking but it resulted in the best of both games shining through! It was also fun to interpret Sonic Zones as Minecraft biomes. Seeing the world as a diverse, interconnected set of Sonic Zones is very exciting!”
This isn’t the first time Gamemode One have brought Sonic’s world into Minecraft, as they were also the creators of the Sonic the Hedgehog DLC! But while the DLC lets you dive into a story-driven adventure, this texture pack means you can play in both Survival or Creative mode and do all your regular Minecrafty things of mining, surviving, and building – with a Sonic twist! With custom animations, nostalgic callbacks, and some fun changes to your inventory, this texture pack immerses you into a re-skinned Overworld, brimming with enemy mobs.
My favorite thing to do when I load up a new texture pack is to start a Creative mode save file, and line up all of the blocks to see how different they look. That way when I go into Survival mode, I know what I want to build! Is that cheating? No! It’s more like… nabbing a Power-Up! Because I can’t resist uncovering secrets, I asked Scott what Gamemode One might have hidden in this pack for us to discover:
Scott Kerslake, Gamemode One“I wouldn't say that there's anything deliberately hidden in the pack, but I am super excited for you to discover all of the Sonic references and new ideas that have been lovingly crafted. Players should feel deeply immersed in the Sonic universe while still being grounded in the roots of Minecraft and its mechanics. With this pack, you can turn any Minecraft adventure into a Sonic quest!”
And what would a Minecraft adventure be without a hostile mob or two? Scott was very secretive about what kinds of mobs had been re-imagined as Badniks in this texture pack, although he did say that the bosses were one of his favorite parts. “You never know…” said Scott. “A certain eggy individual might be making an appearance…”
I’ll leave that up to you to discover! Download the Sonic Texture Pack at Minecraft Marketplace today, and nab your free Character Creator item* while you’re at it, too!
