Huge congratulations to the winners, Finalists, Semifinalists, and everyone who participated. Well built!
A note on the admission process
There was an oversight during our admission process that the community brought to our attention last week, after the Finalists had been announced and voting had already begun. Our team was caught up in the excitement of reviewing the community submissions and overlooked that the Tree Village Build contained blocks from multiple biomes.
While we appreciate that the Build was created with good intentions, we ultimately had to remove the Tree Village Build from Grand Prize consideration for this reason. However, due to the strong support it received from both the community and our judging panel – including the filmmakers – we've decided to recognize it as an honorable mention and have it appear in the movie alongside the Finalists and overall winner. We also decided to bring another Build from the semifinals (Tranquil Taiga Tower) into the final and include it in the movie as well. This is the Build that would’ve advanced to the finals if we’d noticed the extra biome blocks in the Tree Village Build in time.
This felt like the most equitable approach to the situation, while also creating an opportunity to highlight more of the community’s creativity in the final movie.
Questions You May Have
When is A Minecraft Movie Squared releasing?
A Minecraft Movie Squared arrives in theaters on July 23, 2027! We can't wait for you to experience the next chapter of the adventure on the big screen.
How will the Builds show up in the movie?
Exactly where they'll appear is something we're keeping under wraps for now, so you'll have to keep an eye out when the movie hits theaters! While we can't guarantee specific placement, every included Build will appear either in the movie itself or the end credits.
Will the Builds look exactly the same in the movie?
Every Finalist Build is making the jump from Minecraft into the world of A Minecraft Movie Squared. While a few small adjustments may be made for the film, the filmmakers are preserving the creativity and spirit that made each build special.
Why didn't you restart the vote once you discovered the issue?
Swapping out the Tree Village Build with another semifinalist and restarting the vote would have meant that the other Finalists would lose all the votes they had already earned. We’d much rather have more builds in the movie than have them start from square one and go through the voting process again.
Why are you still including the Tree Village build in the movie if it’s not a finalist?
The Tree Village is an exceptional Build and very popular within the community. We don’t want to take away the recognition and momentum it’s already been given due to the error in evaluating the Build. We try to put our community first in everything we do, and we think that including Tree Village follows that principle.
*Warner Bros. shall determine the placement of the Build within the Movie (which placement may be in the end credits). For details, see Official Rules at aka.ms/moviebuild
