Exploring a Nether fortress is not for the faint-hearted. Its dark bridges and corridors harbour many dangers - from precipitous drops, to lava spills, to Ghast attacks, to Wither Skeletons. But few of these risks are as threatening as our mob of the month: the Blaze.
Blazes have been part of the Minecraft multiverse since November 2011 - when version 1.0 of the game was first released. You’ll only find them in Nether fortresses, so if you’re hunting them you’ll need to hunt them there. But when you do find some, you can guarantee that you’ll find plenty - because they usually originate from a monster spawner.
Recognising a blaze is easy - they look like floating fiery cubes with blaze rods spinning around them, all giving off lots of smoke. Blaze creator jeb_ noted back in 2016:
