New on Realms: Hodgepodge Llama Dodge

Oh boy, here we go reviewing maps again! Every few weeks we showcase Minecraft creations from some of the most innovative mapmakers in the community, then put them up on Realms for Minecraft: Java Edition. It’s always a mystery what kinds of things will be sent to us for inclusion on Realms: will it be a wide-open adventure, a new spin on the Complete the Monument genre, or a team-based minigame? I’m still waiting for someone to send in an excellent mountain jungle river rafting experience, though. Hint, hint!

This week, we’ve got three minigames for you to enjoy! The first is a fast-paced sprint through a dangerous city, the second is an arcade style dodging game that lets you play as a llama, and the third map is all about achieving total destruction in a small area. Onwards to the maps!

Downtown Destruction

As you’ll notice immediately, Downtown Destruction has a unique look to it. It’s a sort of drab, gloomy city; and hey, the roads and buildings don’t even make sense! But that’s okay, because in this arena shooter, they don’t have to. According to Vilder50, the unique art style of this map started when their team made a prototype game involving players running around a stone city with an instant-kill bow. The idea of sneaking up on enemies to dispatch them was pretty gloomy, so they made the whole map gloomy!

The more players you add into your game, the bigger the play area becomes. With the ability to select which items are in each round, as well as choose between several game modes, you and your friends will have tons of ways to customize gameplay.

Dodge

Dodge is a simple minigame that uses your character’s movement to control a little arcade zombie, a villager, or adorable llama in dodging anvils and grabbing powerups. It reminds me a bit of my flash-based childhood favorite, Lasagna From Heaven. Anyone remember that? No…?

In any case, the creators have let us know that our own Adam Martinsson’s endless mode score is the highest they’ve seen! So that means right now, the time to beat is 682 seconds, with a score of 279. Get to it!

Bombathon

Are you the kind of player who enjoys blowing up things while around other players? Are those the kinds of players who get super mad at you for blowing up their things? Wouldn’t it be great if you could destroy things all day without losing friends? We have the minigame for you!

In Bombathon, players use TNT blocks to destroy various creations. Each player gets the same thing to destroy, and their own play space, so you won’t find yourself suddenly ostracized by your entire play group! Now, everyone can live together in peace, harmony, and explosions.

Better Together

We hope you’ll try out and love each of the new maps here. Did you try out all of the maps from last month? There’s a whole library of awesome content for you to browse, load into your Realm, and share with your friends. Friends make all of these creations better! Except the ones that are singleplayer only. Try those when your friends are busy with less important things, such as eating, sleeping, or attending school or work.
