Since the earliest days of Minecraft, the Java Edition has been supported by servers - online spaces where millions of players can get together, exploring custom-built worlds or crazy mini games - all run by enthusiastic members of our amazing community. Now, with the Better Together Update, we’ll be bringing some of that community-driven magic to consoles, mobiles and Windows 10.
We’ve joined forces with four of Minecraft’s most prestigious servers - Lifeboat, Mineplex, InPvP, and CubeCraft - and made them accessible directly from the game itself via a server browser.
Servers work a little differently to Minecraft Realms - our own service, which offers private, cloud-hosted world for you and your friends. By contrast, servers are open and accessible to everyone, but we’ve taken care to only partner up with people we trust, and ensure that there are plenty of parental controls and safety features for you to tweak. They’re a great way to discover new friends and to experience new ways to play Minecraft! And because the Better Together Update brings console, mobile and Windows 10 versions into a new cross-compatible edition, you’ll be able to play on these servers with friends on any of the supported devices!
Check out the video above to hear Minecraft's Meg Fitzgerald and InPvP's Niraj Morar tell us what we can expect from massive server play!
We’ll have more news on servers closer to the launch of the Better Together Update, so keep your peepers peeled.
