The deepest and darkest part of the Overworld – the area that Mojang’s extremely-talented naming team calls the “deep dark” – is a dangerous place. Dangerous, and very very quiet.
Down here you won’t hear the oinking of pigs, the clucking of chickens, the huffing of horses or the sneering of villagers. You’ll rarely come across the clatter of a skeleton, moan of a zombie, or the hiss of a rapidly-expanding creeper. The wardens, who rule over the deepest places of the Overworld, like things to be quiet.
Why? So they can hear when something wanders past that they can eat – an event to which they’re alerted by our very loud Block of the Month - the sculk shrieker.
