New on Realms: Monster Tots and Chatty Bots
Satisfy an appetite for stalactites in our monstrous spelunking minigame
We’re back to bring you another bundle of Realms goodness! Every few weeks we update PC Realms with a handful of new things to play.
Usually, these are incredibly inventive maps, lovingly made by the amazingly talented Minecraft community, lovingly selected by us, and just as lovingly parcelled out for you to unwrap in the comfort of your own realm. This week, however, we’ve also included a map lovingly made by us! It’s about being a fossil-chomping cave-monster. How, er, lovely!
And alongside that we have a couple of colour-matching, block-bouncing, die-rolling minigames and a chatbot that probably won’t go rogue and take over the world. Let’s dig in!
by Moesh and Mojang
Many of you know Moesh, the mapmaker we tapped to help publish new and fantastic Minecraft content on Realms. Between cranking out many games and adventures, he’s been working on an original minigame called Monster Kids. In this game, you take on the role of a young monster, tasked with delving into a deep cave in search of delicious fossilized food! Don’t eat all the fossils, though, because you need to bring them back up to the monster in charge. If you die, you drop your fossils. The team who collects the most fossils by the end of the round is the winner!
Here’s Moesh to explain a bit of what inspired him to create this game:
I've designed Monster Kids to extend Minecraft's caving experience. The underlying gameplay is tuned to support freedom in problem solving and frequent player interaction, while limiting a player’s desire to play the game as a 'deathmatch'. The look and feel of the game is geared towards making the player feel calm as they enter dangerous situations, while highlighting important elements such as mobs and ores. Players should feel like they have the ability to move as freely, and as fast, as they want. Moesh
Monster Kids uses a custom resource pack, so be sure to go through all of the screenshots. Better yet, try it out for yourself!
Colorful Rotation is a minigame where one or two players deftly bounce colored blocks off a colored spinning ring. Rotating it left or right to the proper color will reflect the same colored blocks. The fun ramps up with a second player, as your bounced blocks enter their play area! Lots of practice and quick usage of the number keys is your key to success.
by MineMakers Team
In the spirit of games like Candy Land or Mario Party comes Makers Party, the fifth Realms map entry by the MineMakers Team. You and your friends take turns rolling the die and moving a corresponding number of spaces. You might get some coins, or suddenly find yourself in a fast-paced minigame. Divergent paths let you race around the board in different ways; we suggest finding the ship and taking it for a ride!
Albert AI is the second entry into the shiny, new Experiences map category. Albert isn’t a true artificial intelligence (we’re not quite at the point where a Minecraft creation will take over the world), but he’s a kind of toy that’s fun to talk to. Included with this map are thousands of lines of questions and answers, and based on what you say to Albert, he can “learn” by growing his memory log. For those who like to tinker, the bot can also be programmed with custom memory and responses by manually editing the blocks, or by using a third-party editing tool.
Looking into the future
We’re busy working with content creators right now to bring you more awesome maps. For those without a time machine nearby (those always spoil everything!), you can expect to see more minigames and adventures of course, but what about some new experiences? Maybe even other map categories? Stick around and find out!
