Tame new mobs, wield the spear, and more!
Hey! You! Yes, you. The person reading this. The one that looks ready for a challenge! Perhaps one with mounts? And of the mayhem variety?
I know you’ve all been chomping at the bit to test the Mounts of Mayhem game drop and today the first features are ready for you in Java snapshot. Bedrock players will have to wait a liiiittle bit longer for the beta and preview, but that just gives you more time to plan your playstyle...!
Finally! Spears are here! Available in all material tiers, spears can be wielded in both melee and mounted combat thanks to their jab and charge attacks. The jab attack can be used to keep foes at a distance while fighting on foot (and push them back if they’re getting too close!) while the charge attack is based on precision and speed.
To deal maximum damage with the charge attack, you’ll need to master aiming the spear while travelling as quickly as possible – but that’s not all. Spears are heavy, so players will need to time when to lower the spear for an attack. Mastering the spear will let you hit hard – and even knock foes from their mounts! But that’s not all the spear has to offer…
That’s right, the gift of this new weapon keeps on giving with an exclusive enchantment made just for the spear. The Lunge enchantment gives you a burst of speed – which you can use to defeat foes, or zip around the Overworld! We’re sure you’ll find even more creative uses for this enchantment – so test it today in Java snapshot. Don’t worry Bedrock players, it’ll come soon to preview and beta, too!
Two new aquatic mobs are swimming into your game worlds: the nautilus and zombie nautilus! The nautilus is beautiful to look at, delightful to swim with, and can also save you if you forget to come up for air! If you’re riding a nautilus, you’ll receive the Breath of the Nautilus effect, which pauses your oxygen consumption until you dismount. Perfect for ocean exploration! But what about the zombie nautilus? We showed you this mount at Minecraft LIVE, but we didn’t tell you that you would be able to tame it, too!
Both the zombie nautilus and zombie horse are tamable in this testing snapshot (and will be tameable in the Bedrock beta and preview, too!). But be warned: both zombie nautiluses and zombie horses are as fun as they are fast, so you won’t be the only ones wanting to ride them. The hostile mobs of the Overworld have also gotten wind of these new majestic mounts, and to tame them you’ll first have to unseat their riders!
Zombie nautiluses mainly attract trident-wielding drowned, while the zombies riding on the zombie horses have also discovered the joy of the spear. But you’re ready for the challenge, right? Of course you are!
Test these features today in Java snapshot – coming soon to Bedrock beta and preview.
You can test these features by enabling snapshots for Minecraft: Java Edition. To install a snapshot, open up the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots in the "Installations" tab. These features will be coming to testing in Bedrock beta and preview soon!
