NERF World brings blasters into Minecraft

Leap, roll, and blast your way through a free DLC for Bedrock Edition!

I never got to play with NERF blasters as a kid, so naturally, getting my hands on one as a grown up temporarily turned me into a menace. After knocking off all the plushies off my coworkers’ desks and having a too-close encounter with our studio’s trophy shelf, I’ve reluctantly agreed to save the blasting for my own trophy-less house.

But little did the anti-fun brigade my reasonable colleagues know that NERF blasters have transcended reality... We can now all blast targets to our pixelated hearts’ content in the free NERF World DLC for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition! And there’s nothing they can do to stop us. Nothing.

Building the perfect obstacle course IRL takes a lot of time, money, and skill (none of which I possess a notable amount of), but thankfully Minecraft and NERF have created amazing virtual parkour courses and battle arenas in Bedrock Edition! Plus, you don’t run the risk of failing a roll landing or overestimating a dumpster cover’s ability to act as a landing pad.

But even virtual parkour requires a bit of practice! Thankfully, you have a training area at your disposal in the central hub of NERF World, where you can blast, jump, and dodge until you’re confident enough to face the challenges inside the battle arenas. In the central hub, you’ll also find a blaster shop (more on that later), the arena selector, a difficulty selector, a progress selector, and the info room.

There are four battle arenas in total, three of which are themed around the dimensions of the Minecraft universe: the Overworld, the Nether, and the End. The fourth one is the NERF arena. You can access each from the central hub of NERF World, through a portal that you control. When you start the DLC, the Overworld arena will be unlocked, while the rest require you to complete certain challenges to gain access. You can’t just dive headfirst into the Nether! I learned that the hard way a long time ago.

Arguably one of the best parts about DLC (and believe you me, I’m great at arguing) is that you can earn in-game NERF bucks and upgrade your blaster! Choose between seven microshot blasters, four larger primary blasters, and the Ender Dragon blaster – my personal favorite. As its name suggests, this blaster (in both its real-life and virtual forms) is inspired by Minecraft’s largest, bossiest mobs, and it truly makes you feel like you’re wielding the power of a dragon.

You know what’s not my favorite, though? The actual sentient Ender Dragon you will face in the End arena. But unlike the OG Ender Dragon from Minecraft, this one blasts devastating giant darts at you. “Not as bad as fireballs and acid,” you say? You’ve clearly never had a coworker blast you from close range after you knocked down their prized goat plushie. I can still feel that light tap on my forehead. :(

Wondering what’s waiting in the fourth and final area, the NERF arena? Just head to Minecraft Marketplace on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, download NERF World, and blast your way to the end! Make sure you stop by the Dressing Room on your way to gear up with some free Character Creator items, including a shirt, a cap, a dart vest, a pair of shorts, and a pair of shoes!

You can find NERF blasters at Target, Walmart, or Amazon in the US and select local retailers worldwide. Just don’t unleash them on unwilling targets like I did.
