What is new in Minecraft Dungeons II? If you were able to catch all the latest and greatest news from this year's edition of Gamescom, you probably know a great deal! If you didn't have the chance to watch it, let us spill the beans one more time: there's a whole new dimension – the Sift – coming to Minecraft Dungeons II!

In addition to this little reveal, we thought it'd be a good opportunity to talk about the many systems players will experience as they pick up the hero's mantle on September 29. The world of Minecraft Dungeons has changed in surprising ways since the days of the Arch-Illager's reign, but whether you're setting foot in the world for the first time or are returning for another adventure, there's plenty of new things to learn about!

An interconnected world

In the first Minecraft Dungeons, heroes banded together to bring down the Arch-Illager, one level at a time. From the mission select table in the player camp, players could embark on missions that took them to isolated locations with a clear beginning and end.

Minecraft Dungeons II takes a different approach and invites players into a vibrant, interconnected world, teeming with life – and danger! You can now journey seamlessly across large regions that contain narrative events, settlements, structures, fast-travel hubs, and other points of interest. You might also stumble upon areas like caves and forgotten ruins whose layouts can vary between visits. So don't stray too far, or you might risk losing your way. And if you lose your bearings – make sure to make use of the world map to navigate, or to teleport to a nearby friend.

Quests

Every great adventure needs a quest, and Minecraft Dungeons II is full of them! Quests are divided into two categories: main quests and side quests. 

As you journey across both the Sift and the Overworld to uncover the source of the strange events unfolding, you'll encounter all sorts of mobs and characters in need of a hero – and a hero's work is never done!

Some adventures are light-hearted detours, while others reveal more about the mysteries surrounding the two worlds. One quest might have you tracking down a beekeeper's missing bees, while another sends you in pursuit of the mysterious Twisted Warden. With some luck, you'll be rewarded for your efforts, with things such as experience for a job well done, or even a nice piece of gear to use in your fights against the foes trying to cause chaos.

Co-op galore

From beginning to end, Minecraft Dungeons II is an adventure that can be enjoyed solo or together with others, supporting a party of up to four players. Whether you prefer to take on the world by yourself, or team up with friends and family, there's plenty of ways heroes can join forces!

The game supports several forms of co-op multiplayer. For starters, there's both local play through couch co-op and teaming up online through cross-play. You can also combine the two with mixed co-op, which allows two or more players on the same console or PC to fight alongside additional players online. 

Looking for new fellow heroes? Look no further! Minecraft Dungeons II introduces matchmaking, making it possible to find other heroes looking for a party. Just jump into their session and right into action. You also have the ability to connect to games via party codes. Your opponents won't stand a chance!

Expanded gear options

Minecraft Dungeons II builds upon the systems of its predecessor by expanding the number of combat slots from 6 to 12, giving heroes more opportunities to create unique builds and experiment with different playstyles. 

Armor is no longer a single item. Instead, heroes can equip a helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots! The game also introduces "talismans". Talismans are a new equipment category in Minecraft Dungeons II that provides passive bonuses and additional build customization. A little sprinkle of extra numbers onto your abilities that can boost your hero's performance!

The possibilities don't stop there – items now have a chance to feature random effects, which can make the same type of piece feel different. Projectile-based weapons have also received a bit of an upgrade: ammunition is now unlimited and recharges automatically over time. That means less time hunting for arrows and more time focusing on what really matters: taking down mobs!

Jump!?!

For years, Minecraft Dungeons heroes have battled both hordes of mobs and towering monstrosities. Now, they're finally able to take on their greatest challenge: parkour!

In addition to dodge rolling, players now have the ability to take a leap into the air. Jumping isn't just useful for exploration; it can also play a role in combat, allowing you to strike from above and add some extra momentum to your attacks. Whether you're searching for hidden treasures or charging headfirst into battle, this newfound mobility will expand both your movement and combat options!

Improved enchanting system

A returning mechanic is the enchanting system, but this time, it is deeper and more flexible than before. As a player journeys through the land, they'll come across enchantment books containing a unique enchantment. These are added to a personal library of enchantments, which can be used at the local enchantsmith to apply an effect on any gear slot of a player's choice. Rather than relying entirely on the enchantments that happen to appear on a piece of loot, you'll have greater control over how your build evolves throughout your adventure.

This shift encourages a more intentional approach to buildcrafting, giving heroes more opportunities to experiment with different combinations and playstyles. And the journey doesn't end once an enchantment has been applied. Enchantments can also be upgraded and leveled up over time, allowing you to continually refine and strengthen your favorite builds as you prepare for the challenges ahead!
