Smashing skeletons in Mythicus’ map!
My favorite thing about Minecraft/being alive is fighting skeletons. Nothing brings me more joy! Not even my wedding day (it wasn’t even close). That’s why I left before the ceremony to fight more skeletons in Minecraft.
Luckily for me, therapy is available. Also luckily for me, today’s Marketplace map, Infinity Dungeon by Mythicus is overflowing with hostile skeletons for you to attack. The only slight problem is that they hit back. Ow!
Before you enter the dungeon proper, you’ll find yourself with no armor and nothing to fight with but a pointy stick. Seems a tad unfair, but my pointy stick is a surprisingly effective weapon. Perhaps that’s why the editor of this website threatens to beat motivate me with sticks if I don’t finish writing these articles on time?
(Mojang Studios’ lawyers have ‘asked’ me to clarify that I’m joking about the editor of Minecraft.net being violent. Or they’ll beat motivate me with sticks. Happy to make that clear, lawyers!)
Here’s a few of the enemies you can expect to meet in the dungeon:
To progress, you have to take out every skeleton in the room. Rooms vary from thin linear corridors, to confounding mazes, to wide-open areas where skeletons can rush you from all sides (I hate these). The final skeleton will drop a key that you can use to access the next room.
Eventually, despite how amazing I am, I perished in Room 15. You get several lives but I lost all of those as well. Curse you skeletons! So I was sent all the way back to the start.
Wait, WHAT.
Five million years ago in the year 1980, a game called Rogue was released. Rogue was brutally difficult even for the time. Because upon death you were punished by having to start the entire game over from scratch! This ridiculously hardcore style of game has made a recent comeback, and we call these games Roguelikes because the videogame industry is famously terrible at naming genres.

For obvious reasons, Roguelikes are about as appealing to some people as a birthday cake made of wasps. Thankfully a significantly less cruel genre emerged from it. These games still send you back upon failure, but you get persistent buffs between runs (e.g. you get to keep the weapons you found for your next go). These are known as Rougelites.
And I’m delighted to report that Infinity Dungeon is a roguelite. Phew!
Once you’re returned to the hub area, you’ll still have whatever gold, loot, and experience you managed to acquire during your dungeon descent. This gold can be used on chests to get a random selection of items, you can use enchanting tables to buff your armor, and you’re also not sent right back to the start. Just several rooms!
After a couple of runs, you’ll hopefully have enough money to get something that hits harder than a pointy stick. I managed to nab myself the far more promising sounding Dungeon Hammer.
Here’s a few tips I wish I’d had before setting out:
There’s no reward for clearing a floor quickly. You’re much better off taking your time and picking each skeleton off one-by-one. Skeletons aren’t too deadly on their own, so try to lure them into thin corridors instead of taking on tons in a wide-open area. Space is not your friend!
Get caught without a weapon in this dungeon and you’ll have to resort to punching your way through it. This is about as smart a strategy as yelling ‘you’re ugly!’ at the warden. Keep any spare weapons you have in your hotbar, too. If a weapon breaks, you don’t wanna have to go into your inventory mid-combat to take out a replacement!
Sometimes the dungeon can get absurdly dark, making it hard to see what’s hitting you. Backtrack to the lighter areas and let the skeletons come to you.
Your health bar only regenerates on a full stomach, so keep that food bar full. I’d recommend seeing if you need a snack whenever there are no threats nearby. Food is a pretty common drop in the dungeon, so get gobbling!
What does this tip have to do with Infinity Dungeon? Nothing, it’s just good advice. You’re welcome.
Chests are pretty easy to spot, but keep an eye out for piles of coins on the floor, and crystals that drop lapis lazuli and experience. Clear out the floor of enemies first, then do a quick loot lap before moving on. You’ll want that loot to get more gear!
I’ve been doing one run of Infinity Dungeon a day for the last week and so far I’ve managed to reach Room 52. Only infinity rooms to go! Can you beat my record? If you do, don’t tell me. I can’t take the self-esteem hit :(
