Let's Play: Actions & Stuff

Perhaps you think it’s heresy to change Minecraft’s gorgeous appearance. If that’s the case, you’ll probably enjoy this post more if you read the rest of it with your eyes shut. Oh, and if you like villagers not being harmed then… Well, actually, let’s not spoil the surprise!  

Let’s start, as games of Minecraft so often do, with Steve: 

Steve not only has a new, softer look. He also now has an idle animation that looks like he’s breathing! Which does raise the slightly horrifying idea that in standard Minecraft the poor boy isn’t breathing, but let’s not dwell on that.  

Much as we’d love to spend the rest of our lives staring at Steve, we decide that it might be even more fun to keep exploring the Overworld and see what else has a great new look: 

Nature is lovely and all but there’s only so many hours we can spend watching a grass block before realizing it's probably not got a new animation. So after a few more hours of watching it , we wander off in search of a village. 

Annoyingly, by the time we track a village down, night has fallen. That means all the villagers are too busy snoozing to show off their animations. Oh, except this one: 

Now sometimes, in our noble, heroic, and handsome quest to write about a Minecraft Marketplace product once a month, we make little mistakes. Like the time we thought writing about an aquatic map would be more immersive if we played it while underwater ourselves (don’t try that at home/the sea).  

But that mistake pales in comparison to today’s error. For you see, when we took that photo of the villager sleeping, we may have possibly perhaps kinda totally left the door open. And let a zombie in. And then, well…

OK, OK. Not our best move. But don’t fret! We immediately and heroically ran away. Not because we’re cowards – that’s just a coincidence. No no no – we sprinted off to find a golden apple so we could cure our poor undead friend! 

After spending perhaps a little too much time admiring the new golden apple 3D model (come now, we’re only human), we remembered we had a village to save. But when we got back, things had escalated somewhat...

Look at that new panicked expression on the villager’s face! But, er, look at it quickly because it clearly needs urgent help.  

Good news: we’re carrying a sword! Bad news: we’re busy. So we leave that loser to his fate and search for our zombified villager from before. After a day of fruitless searching (we couldn’t find them in any of the villagers chests. Just loads of treasure we decided to hold onto for safekeeping), we finally found the zombie villager when night fell, and offered them the golden apple. 

We decided to leave the village shortly afterwards. And the, er, entire Overworld. Y’know, just until the heat dies down.

Speaking of heat, we decided to take our chances in The Nether! That’s bound to have a lovely new look. And hopefully be missing all the zombified villagers who are currently chasing us. Eep. 

Ever packed for a lovely vacation to the Nether, only to realize a little too late that you’ve mixed it up with the plains biome? Because, er, that’s sort of what happened here. Still, at least being constantly on fire kept us warm, constantly fleeing ghast’s kept us in great shape, and constantly having treats for the eyes almost made the whole horrible ordeal worth it.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to try and recall where we parked our Nether portal. Er... hmmm.
