The fall edition of Minecraft Live just ended, but I am still seated. I need to take in all the announcements and deep dives that I just witnessed. Luckily for you, I am a writer, which means I took diligent notes throughout the entire show, just in case there’s a quiz later. Shall we review the highlights together? What a silly question, everybody loves to revise! Let’s go.
Creator Platform: lowering the barrier for new creators
As Jens Bergenström, Chief Creative Officer, so eloquently put it, our goal here at Mojang Studios is to inspire and enable new generations of Minecraft creators, and one way we’re going to do that is by removing some of the obstacles standing in your way. And I’m not talking about literal ones, like villagers blocking your doorway (they are, and forever will be, your problem). No, we’re thinking more along the lines of improving tools and systems to make it easier to create, manage, and share your game content.
Maybe you’ve been trying to explain what Minecraft is to your Nan and instead of embroidering a phantom circling a hut on a pillow, you could create a world that she relates to. Then get started on that pillow, because that would look pretty nice on your couch!
Our vision is to lower the barrier for more players to become Minecraft creators. That’s what we mean when we talk about the creator platform. It's all about having more Minecraft in the world, thanks to the people making more Minecraft. And we’ll all keep going! Until the entire world is one big block. Woops! I’ve given too much away, ignore that last bit. Let’s move on!
