Ho there, riders! Stop that steed for a second! I know you’ve all been busy riding around on the new nautilus, zombie nautilus, and zombie horse with your spears held high. But even more challengers have entered the arena formally known as the Overworld, and some classics are ready to make a big splash in testing!
These features are available to test now in Java snapshot, and they’ll be available to test soon in Bedrock beta and preview, too.
Introducing: the camel husk! This new mob might not be hostile – but its riders defintitely are...!
The days of lazy treks in the desert are OVER. No more sunbathing beneath badlands peaks – no more relaxed sunrises, because the new undead mob – the camel husk – that spawns there may be passive, but the mobs that ride it are most certainly not! If you do manage to unseat the rider, the camel husk is already tamed so you can hop right on. But hopefully you’ve gotten your spear-wielding under control, because they’re not letting go of their camel husk without a fight.
The BRAVERY it must have taken to tame that mount. I'm sure taming the camel husk was tricky, too!
Spear-wielding husks – hostile mobs that are resistant to sunlight – love a camel husk ride at any time of day.
But as we all know, both camels and camel husks can have two riders. So you will end up facing a second foe as well… the parched!
Meet: the parched! A new hostile mob coming to Minecraft
The parched is a new desert skeleton variant that favors the bow and likes to pepper players with arrows. In the bright light of day, they ride across the sandy slopes with their sight set on YOU!
With flying arrows to dodge and spears to shield against, the camel husk and its hostile riders will prove a formidable foe for even the most practised of champions…!
Splish, splash I’m taking a bath – with a donkey! Finally, my lifelong dream is coming to fruition. Your mounts don’t fear the cool waters of the Overworld anymore. They’re ready to swim, albeit at a slower pace. They’re still a little cautious, they won’t be jumping or sprinting. This means no more circumventing pesky bodies of water, now you can swim straight through! Yeehaw!
Now if you don’t mind, I have an ocean that’s just waiting to be swum through. Come on, Bad Larry! It’s time to get our hooves wet.
You can test these features by enabling snapshots for Minecraft: Java Edition. To install a snapshot, open up the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots in the "Installations" tab.
They will be coming to Bedrock preview* and beta very soon!
*Preview is available for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Realms on Xbox, Windows 10/11, and iOS. Betas are available on Android (Google Play).
