    Angry Birds DLC: Dev Q&A

    We recently hosted a Dev Q&A on the official Minecraft Discord server to celebrate the release of the Angry Birds DLC pack (available now in Minecraft Marketplace)! Joining us were a few key members from Oreville Studios (the developers of the DLC pack) who answered questions straight from our community. Missed it? Not a problem! We compiled the highlights into an easy-to-read article below:

    Q: I played this map and it's my favorite. My question is, how long did it take you to make this map and how many people worked behind it?

    Sky, Director: We're so happy to hear it's your favourite! The development took approximately 8 months and 10 people from our team were involved.

    Q: Who are your favorite Angry Birds characters?

    Vuk, Senior Artist: I love Red’s personality and charm the most. The second favourites are Terence and Chuck.

    Vike, Artist: I think Stella is really cool. Her ability in-game is so versatile; she's just good in any situation.

    Liam, Program Manager & Director: The Hug trader; he just has so much emotional depth. Truly inspiring.

    Q: Why are the angry birds just spheres? That can't be very aerodynamic.

    Vike: The birds come in all different shapes and sizes! If you're looking to go fast, Chuck is definitely your guy, but if you wanna topple some pigs over, I'd go with Terence.

    Q: Is the animation hard to do?

    Liam: Extremely, but we're fortunate to have a very talented animator on our team who made it look easy!

    Q: What’s the difference between angry birds and bad piggies?

    Vuk: Angry birds are colourful and full of different unique personalities, but two things tie them together – being birb and anger! Pigs are more soft and chubby and they all come in a single colour: just green! Unless they slip and fall into a paint bucket, you never know... (PS: PIGS RULƎ!)

    Q: How many maps have been created up until now?

    Liam: Including Angry Birds, we have 5 maps on Marketplace one of them is even available for free!

    Q: Are angry birds chickens in birds’ clothing?

    Vuk: W-Who told you that!?

    Q: Was there anything big or something that disappointed you, that you had to cut?

    Vike: There are so many fun locations and characters in Angry Birds that we wanted to explore; it was hard picking which ones that would make the cut. I'd love to see even more of the iconic characters added to the game – looking at you Hal!

    Q: How long did it take to make the models?

    Sky: Unfortunately, we don't have the exact number for this, but we can tell you there's over 1000+ models in Angry Birds. So let’s just say, quite long!

    Q: Do you plan on updating it with new levels as time goes on?

    Vuk: We would definitely love to do that! It's been super fun working on the DLC. However, that’s something that’s still to be determined in the future!

    Q: Why are angry birds angry?

    Liam: Because if they weren't they would be called Chilled Birds and that wouldn't make a very good game.

    Q: What gives you guys ideas for updates? And what inspires you?

    Vike: Thinking up an idea and then getting to actually turn it into something tangible is such a surreal experience. And then getting to see all the people enjoy the end product is what motivates us to make the next one even better.

    Vuk: The biggest inspiration for Angry Birds came from all of the colourful and unique characters and environments, mostly inspired by the movies. We took inspiration from the craftiness of piggies and all the unique ways they find to make all sorts of machinery work, out of planks, sticks and stones or anything else! Their flow of ideas never stops, nor does ours!
