Guiding a new generation
Mojang Studios truly believes that diversity within the gaming industry is the key to better games and a better workplace!
So, in 2024, the "Meet a Mojanger" Career Panel series was launched, with the aim to promote opportunities for increased diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the entire gaming industry. The initiative hopes to pave the way for a whole new generation of aspiring gaming professionals!
The first Career Panel was held in April of 2024, together with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, which is a nonprofit that works to inspire and connect Latinos, focusing on education, workforce, social impact, justice, and culture.
The online event allowed students from the Latino community to connect with nine Mojang panelists stemming from a wide range of backgrounds, ranging from marketing to coders, and even a Microsoft recruiter that could guide students when it came to landing an internship, and career advice!
Each panelist got the chance to tell their story of how they ended up at Mojang Studios, and what skills are good to have as a student trying to make it in the gaming industry.
The second Career Panel took place in October, this time together with the Microsoft Nonprofit Tech Acceleration program, a program committed to increasing technology access for nonprofit organizations that serve historically underrepresented communities.
This panel was geared towards high school and college-aged students as well as early-in-career professionals from underrepresented populations, marketing the event to thousands of non-profits as well as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to spread awareness for the event.
Once again, event participants got the chance to connect with a panel of nine Mojang team members, a university recruiter and learn about their journeys.
With over 700 participants from 85 countries, it seemed like the “Meet a Mojanger” Career Panel managed to inspire its young audience:

I loved the diversity that was present in the panel discussions, and the backgrounds and career paths that each individual has taken to arrive at this juncture in their careers was very interesting.

All of it was great. I especially enjoyed the talk about how to potentially forge a career since I am a grad that tries to find his way into the gaming industry.

My favorite part of the career panel was the talk about preparing for university and creating a resume. As a college student, that is at the forefront of my mind, and it helped me to hear the tips.
In 2025, the “Meet a Mojanger” Career Panel will return, hopefully reaching even more students across the world, helping them as they pursue a career in gaming!
