GENERAL INFO

WHAT IS MINECRAFT EARTH?

Minecraft Earth is an all-new augmented reality game you can play on your mobile devices that brings the Minecraft world into our universe! Through the lens of the game, you’ll be able to build creations with friends and place them in the real world at life-size.  You’ll discover exciting new mobs to use in your builds. And you may need to put your survival skills to the test as you explore a new side to your neighborhood and battle Minecraft mobs in real life!

HOW MUCH WILL MINECRAFT EARTH COST?

Minecraft Earth will be free to play.

WILL MINECRAFT EARTH HAVE LOOT BOXES?

No.

WHICH PLATFORMS WILL MINECRAFT EARTH BE ON?

Minecraft Earth is coming to iOS and Android this summer on AR-capable devices. We’ll have more to share soon.

WHAT KIND OF DEVICE DO I NEED TO PLAY MINECRAFT EARTH?

You will need a mobile device running iOS 10 and Android 7 or newer.

WHAT REGIONS WILL MINECRAFT EARTH BE SUPPORTED IN?

We’re committed to bringing Minecraft Earth to the entire Earth but will roll the game out gradually to ensure everyone gets the best play experience. Minecraft Earth will support all the same languages as regular vanilla Minecraft.

WHEN WILL MINECRAFT EARTH BE RELEASED?

Minecraft Earth will be available in closed beta this summer.

WHAT ABOUT PLAYER SAFETY?

We take safety seriously and are taking measures to make Minecraft Earth an enjoyable and reliable experience for all our players. Players and parents will be able to use Account Management to adjust safety and privacy settings. A reporting system will allow players to report any concerns in-game and on our website. In addition, we will also have a moderation team working 24/7 to manage and respond to reports.

DOES MINECRAFT EARTH REQUIRE A MICROSOFT OR XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT?

Yes. A free Microsoft or Xbox Live account allows you to track your progress and save both builds and inventory to your profile. This means that every time you play, you can pick up right where you left off! The paid Xbox Live Gold service is not required to play Minecraft Earth.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY PHONE?

Everything in your Minecraft Earth game is kept on your account in the cloud, including your build plates, inventory, etc. Be sure to keep your Microsoft Account/Xbox Live account safe – we will never ask for it and you should never give your password to anyone.

CAN I USE MY SKIN FROM VANILLA MINECRAFT IN MINECRAFT EARTH?

Yes, we’ve designed a system that allows you to use your favorite Marketplace skin in Minecraft Earth as well. Just click on your character’s picture at the top left side of the screen and you can choose from any of your owned skin packs.

WHY ARE YOU TAKING TIME AWAY FROM DEVELOPING VANILLA MINECRAFT TO MAKE THIS GAME?

Don’t worry - Minecraft Earth has a separate team dedicated to its development, so that both it and vanilla Minecraft can get the love and care they deserve.

IS HEROBRINE IN THIS GAME TOO?

<REDACTED>

GAMEPLAY INFO

WHAT’S THE GAMEPLAY LIKE IN MINECRAFT EARTH?

There’s lots to do in Minecraft Earth whilst exploring your world or relaxing at home:

  • Collect blocks, mobs, and items of varying rarities from Tappables.

  • Use the blocks, mobs, and items you collected to build your latest masterpiece on tabletop Build Plates.

  • Explore your builds in life-size AR.

  • Experience the world of Minecraft in the real world with augmented reality at Adventures.

CAN I INVITE FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH ME ON MY BUILDS?

When in your Build Plate, you can hit “Invite Friend” to generate a QR code. Friends nearby that also have the game installed can scan this QR code using the “Join Friend” feature from the main Minecraft Earth map and they’ll be placed into your build plate! From there, you can both interact with your build plate just as you would any Minecraft world. You need to be in the same location to build together. When you (the owner of the build plate) stop playing, all other players are disconnected.

You can both invite friends to join you in diorama build mode, and in life-size play mode.

WHAT ARE ADVENTURES?

Adventures are the survival part of Minecraft Earth. The part where you explore, take daring risks and lose it all in a pool of lava.  You will see an Adventure on your in-game map. Get close and tap on it to enter. You will never know exactly what’s in there, the contents are randomized.  It is a slice of a real Minecraft world in life size on the ground. You dig down with your pickaxe or shovel, chop down trees. There might be mobs in there you can kill or breed, and deep under the ground, you may find valuable ores, hidden treasures or a hive of hostile mobs!

WHERE CAN I FIND ADVENTURES?

Adventures will not be available during the first phases of the closed beta. When they are ready, we will start placing them on the in-game map in small quantities, and eventually they will be easy to find and play.

CAN PEOPLE GRIEF/DESTROY/TAKE THINGS FROM MY BUILD PLATE?

When you invite other people into your build plate in tabletop Build mode, they can interact with it just like in any Minecraft world. Building, placing items and mobs, as well as breaking and taking blocks are all possible.

However, when you are in life-size Play mode, you are playing an instance of the world. Nothing gets saved. So, feel free to burn, pillage, and hunt the mobs in there. Play mode is built for shenanigans and action. After the session ends, everything is back to where it was, and nothing is lost.

This means that in tabletop Build mode, you should only build with friends that you trust to handle your builds with care and not set everything on fire. But in play mode, all bets are off.

WILL THERE EVER BE BIGGER BUILD PLATES?

Yes, we are planning on making larger build plates with smaller blocks in future updates.

CAN SOMEONE ELSE GO INTO MY BUILD PLATE WHEN I’M NOT PLAYING?

No- for someone to access your build plate, you have to invite them in. Once you stop playing, they will be removed from the game.

I’M COLLECTING A LOT OF COOL & RARE ITEMS IN THIS BETA! WILL I GET TO KEEP THEM?

The integrity of your builds and data is super important to us, making sure that your creations and collection stay intact is a top priority. That said, we will wipe everything at least once during the beta period- Inventory, stats and build plates. That is because this is a true beta designed to test a huge amount of things. After the beta period ends, what you collect, build and own will stay there.

IS THERE ANY LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF ITEMS I CAN HAVE IN MY INVENTORY?

No, your inventory size is unlimited. As with vanilla Minecraft, the maximum stack size in your hotbar is still 64, but in your inventory, there is no maximum stack size.

HOW DOES LEVELING WORK IN MINECRAFT EARTH?

You gain experience points based on the Tappables you get while playing. Once you have enough experience points, you’ll gain a level in the game. Every 5 levels, you’ll unlock a new build plate with even more blocks and mobs to play with.

AM I ALLOWED TO LIVESTREAM/POST PICTURES OR VIDEOS OF THE BETA TO MY SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS?

Yes. You can share with us and other players by using #MinecraftEarth or tagging our Twitter account at @MinecraftEarth

WHAT ARE THE IOS-ONLY FEATURES OF MINECRAFT EARTH?

Minecraft Earth will use Apple ARKit’s People Occlusion to show people directly inside their life-size builds, and Motion Capture to trigger pre-set character animations in the game. This is part of ARKit 3.0 in the upcoming version of iOS, version 13.

CLOSED BETA INFO

HOW DO I GET INTO THE MINECRAFT EARTH BETA?

The closed betas for Minecraft Earth will be launching this summer on iOS and Android. As with all betas, the number of participants will be limited but we anticipate it rolling out to hundreds of thousands of players. Players must be 18 or older to participate. You can sign up for the opportunity to join here.

WHEN WILL I GET THE MINECRAFT EARTH SKIN FOR SIGNING UP FOR THE BETA?

You will receive an email with instructions on how to claim your free skin within 24 hours of registration.

THE SIGN-UP FORM IS ASKING FOR A LOT OF DATA. WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH IT?

We'll use your email address to send you your free skin and communicate updates about the game, including any beta programs.

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN A BETA?

Simply return to the Minecraft Earth sign up page, click the "Sign Up Now" button and login with the same Microsoft/XBL account you used to sign up. We'll show you all the data you entered and there will be a button to delete your data. Clicking that button removes you from the beta and deletes all your data from our servers. It does not opt you out of any promotional email communications. If you would like to opt out of email communications, then visit the Promotional Communications Manager. You can find our Privacy Statement here.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE BETA?

Spots to participate in the beta are limited, and we want to be sure that beta players stay active. So that we can get as many people as possible playing in the beta, participants will need to be actively playing within a seven-day span to remain as a participant. Players who are removed from the beta will go back into the beta pool and may have another chance to participate later.

WHAT GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS WILL BE PRESENT IN THE MINECRAFT EARTH CLOSED BETA?

During Closed Beta, we expect to have Tappables, tabletop build plates and life-size AR features available. We expect to roll out more features over time, but we’re taking this slow to make sure everything is working well, so we don’t have concrete timeframes to share on when Adventures will be ready to join in on the fun or the other features we have planned for the future.

I HAVE AN ANDROID DEVICE! WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BETA?

Don’t worry! We have a beta planned for Android too. Our Closed Beta will be running first on iOS, and then once we are ready to add more people, we’ll be opening it up to Android players. Keep an eye on your e-mail inbox and stay tuned to the Minecraft Earth official twitter account at @MinecraftEarth for news on this.
